Cervical Radiculopathy

Cervical Radiculopathy

Cervical radiculopathy is a condition that affects the nerves in the cervical (neck) region of the spine. At its most mild, cervical radiculopathy causes neck pain; in severe cases, a patient can lose feeling in the neck and experience decreased mobility. Learn more about cervical radiculopathy and the options for treating its symptoms.

What is Cervical Radiculopathy?

Cervical radiculopathy refers to any form of nerve irritation or damage at the cervical level of the spine. Cervical nerves can be affected by a number of factors, the most common of which include herniated discs, degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis. All of these conditions can pinch, inflame or otherwise impact the nerves in such a way that results in neck pain.

A few common signs of cervical radiculopathy include:

  • Neck pain
  • Decreased range of motion in the neck
  • Numbness or tingling in the neck that may radiate down the back

Because radiculopathy involves the nerves, treating the condition is essential to preventing permanent damage and loss of feeling.

Cervical Radiculopathy Pain Relief

Treatment for cervical radiculopathy includes conservative options like pain medication, physical therapy and chiropractic. Injections may also help relieve inflammation and pain. If these treatments fail, a minimally invasive surgical procedure may be considered.
